Slow Food Trip to Strokestown Park

18th June at 11am
from the Black Box car park

Strokestown Park, Co Roscommon consists of a Georgian Palladian mansion preserved with its original furnishings, fabrics and 19th century kitchen, a six acre walled garden and the Irish national Famine museum.

The walled gardens give an insight into horticultural design and architecture from the 1740's and include features such as the herbaceous border, the fernery, Victorian rose garden, pergola, peach house, vinery, fruit and vegetable garden and herb garden.

The Irish National Famine Museum, located in the original stable yard, was designed to commemorate the history of the famine of Ireland and in some way to balance the history of the 'Big House

Former GMIT lecturer in gastronomy and food history will be on hand to provide an insight on the cooking in a 19th century house.
