Slow Food Galway to Ring in Spring with Gourmet St. Brigid’s Day Banquet in Aid of Local Charities
Tuesday 13th January 2015: A gourmet banquet which promises to be a highlight of Slow Food Galway’s culinary year will be held on the first day of spring, 1st February, 2015 at LOAM restaurant, Galway. The banquet, which will showcase local produce and food producers, is being held to raise funds for local charities - COPE catering, Galway; Clowns Without Borders, Ireland; and a Slow Food funded project, Ten Thousand Gardens in Africa.
“We had no difficulty agreeing on these organisations to benefit from the banquet”, said Kate O’Dwyer of the organising committee. “COPE does brilliant work in the community in Galway; the Gardens for Africa project is already giving a voice to communities and delivering local expertise to food producers throughout the continent; Clowns Without Borders, although not well known, is active in Ireland and many countries and brings joy and laughter to children living in conflict zones and those dealing with suffering and illness”.
All of the food served at the banquet will be sourced locally. “The promotion of local food producers and the enjoyment of food are integral to the Slow Food philosophy so we decided to make it a Galway food dinner,” said Kate. “All produce will be sourced within the county to demonstrate the quality and range of produce available in Galway”.
The banquet will begin with canapés and traditional music to mark St. Brigid’s Day and welcome the arrival of spring. A five course menu showcasing the best of local produce will follow and specially selected Slow Wines will accompany the food.
“We are delighted that Enda McEvoy agreed to hold the banquet in LOAM (www.loamgalway.com),” said Kate. “His reputation as one of the most creative chefs in Ireland will ensure an exciting dining experience for everyone”.
Tickets for the event are €75 per person and are limited so early booking is advised.
