Killeen Farmhouse Cheese Visit and Summer Slow Food BBQ - Sunday 15th August
Our August slow-food event is a visit to Killeen Farmhouse Cheese. Killeen is a handmade pasteurised cheese, made using traditional animal rennet. Based on a Gouda recipe, it is available in goat and cow’s milk varieties. Our visit will include a demonstration of the cheese-making process and a visit to the goats from which the cheese is made!
After the Killeen visit, we are adjourning to food producer, and Slow Food Galway member, Cobie Den Heyer’s home for our Summer BBQ. The highlight of which will be a barbecued kid goat.
Cobie will also give a mackerel smoking demonstration – something she promises anyone can do at their own home.
Members are asked to bring a small! side dish and also, if possible, a folding chair or stool.

Directions from Portumna
Four miles from Portumna (on the R352), you first cross a little bridge, and 200 yards further you come to a 'cross' with an island and a signpost on it.
The mainroad veers to the left, you take the smaller road that goes straight ahead towards Gort. You will pass a white house on the left hand side, a little further there is a gravel roadway to the left (with young trees beside it).
That's it. It is a big shed with red windows in the front of it.
